Astrology: A Science or Entertainment

Astrology whether we talk about western or vedic, has been a debatable issue for ages.Leading web portal and search engine "Yahoo" categorizes Astrology as a source of entertainment.I personally believe that entertainment is simply a way to keep yourself far from your own being. Its about loosing the totality.
On the other hand for all the mathematicians and astronomers who have worked hard to find the planetory positions, write complex trigonometic forumale and develop long computer algorithms , saying astrology an entertainment does not seem so wise.Astrology and astronomy are two tightly coupled subjects.Long before Kepler, Copernicus, Brahe, Galilio and other galaxy of astronomers were born, the Hindu sages had already gained much knowledge on the stellar or planetary universe.
Every thing which has a mass has a gravitational pull.Mass is directly proportional to the force of gravity.People wonder how planets can affect human body and nature when they are so many light years away.I say is not it all connected? Its the nature at its best where everything is balanced. There are some visible patterns in our body and the composition of planet earth.Even in  Vedic Science it is said that body is a composition of five basic elements viz. Earth, Air, Water,Sky and Fire.Planets have fixed orbits.Everything is connected to each other and thus has impact on each other too.

Indian Astrology

Indian Astrology has been divided into three main branches of study.

     1. Siddanta

     2. Samhita

     3. Hora

Siddantas are those who devote to astronomical study of celestial bodies Samhitas deal with mundane astrology, earth quakes, floods, volcanic eruptions, rainfall, weather conditions economic conditions and effects of sunspots. The next and the very important branch is the Phalitha Jyothisha branch which concentrates on the system of predictions.  And this branch has six sub-divisions, namely,  Jathaka, Gola, Prasna, Nimitta, Muhurta and Ganitha.

Apart from these schools of planetary interpretations, we have what we can call as Nadi system which gives pen pictures of life and destiny patterns of people born at 12,24,48 seconds intervals. These have been written on palm leaves. Only very few experts can   read and understand these, but the results and predictions are found to be amazingly accurate.

  1. I daresay ... celestial bodies do have an impact on human beings. Tidal effect is a pretty good example of that. I thought you said hormones, not full moon. Oh God! Yes. LOL.
